A weapon shop is, as the name implies, a business in Mazeworld specialized in buying and selling all kinds of weapons, ammunition and weapon accessories. Weapon shops are broader than their close variants, gun shops, but are much rarer as they are not scripted encounters.

Weapon shops may, however, be found in a specific roomstyle: the meeting office.

Rules of a weapon shop
*Sells 24 random weapons.
*Only sells ammunition and accessories for the weapons on the list.
*Only sells one exemplary of every weapon displayed.
*Only sells the equivalent of five small boxes of ammo of every caliber displayed.
*Only sells up to five standard magazines (Belts are considered as such) and one non-standard magazine (extended, drums, etc), or equivalent, for every weapon on display (it does not stack if multiple weapons are compatible with one same type of magazine/etc; the maximums are always 5/1).
*Buys back any weapon, accessory and ammunition for 50% of their value.
*Accepts credit.
*Accepts valuables and will exchange them for money or credit.
*For 2 weapons bought, the third is free.

When threatened, a weapons merchant will use his/her personal weapon, a Springfield M14, on the contestant and will not hesitate to use deadly force if attacked.<br />
Threatening or attacking a weapons merchant can give the contestant a code orange, and killing one can increase it to a code red.
</div>

A workshop is a business in Mazeworld specialized in all matters related to crafting and gunsmithing. People in charge of workshops are called engineers.

Engineers are not simply workshop owners, but are people charged of various other tasks in the Mazes as they can notably be found in electrical rooms, watching over the power controls and ensuring the well-being and proper functioning of machinery, factory lines and anything else requiring power in the Mazes.<br />

Engineers, like scientists, may belong to one of many Engineering Teams.

* Workshop ET - Specializes in crafting, repairing, maintaining and customizing firearms, as well as certain other related hardware. Workshop engineers are Maze Customs qualified by requirement.
* Power maintenance ET - Specializes in overwatch and maintenance of electrical rooms, power network systems, and ensures that the Mazes' sectors are supplied with energy.
* Computer systems ET - Specializes in administration, maintenance and overwatch of computer systems, networks, hardware and software. Some specialize in watching and maintaining the Mazes' intranet and the relevant infrastructure.
* Production ET - Specializes in conception and mass production of products in the Mazes, and typically oversee factory rooms, or some other form of production area; this team is further divided in subtypes depending on the products they oversee, such as firearms, food, packaging, clothing, and so on.
* Proving Grounds ET (AKA the "PG Team") - A rarely seen type of engineer in the Mazes, Proving Grounds (or simply PG) engineers are responsible of research, development, and testing of new technologies. All of the new weapons, accessories, or pieces of gear are first tested by the PG Team.
* Building ET (AKA the "Bees" or "B's") - Another rarely seen team, they typically act outside of the inhabited sectors as their job is to construct, maintain, and repair the rooms in various sectors. They work in conjuction with Power maintenance engineers, and are the ones who bring light, furniture, hardware, and facilities to life, transforming barren, empty room sectors into inhabitable areas.

Note: An engineer outside of a workshop does not sell anything.<br />
Typically, an engineer is paid 145 P$/day for their work, plus bonuses depending on their specific line of work.

Rules of a workshop
*Accepts credit
*Accepts valuables and will exchange them for money or credit

* Crafting services
** Sells 4 random crafting ingredients for a varying price between 200 and 800 P$
** Sells toolkits
** Only sells one exemplary of every blueprint displayed
** Buys back blueprints for 50% of their value, but does not buy back crafting ingredients.
** For three items bought, the fourth is free.

* Gunsmithing services
** Proposes a weapon customization service dubbed Maze Customs
** Sells 1d6 Gun Cleaning Kits, 200 P$ per GCK.
** Firearm maintenance: Cleans dirty firearms, 10 P$ per 1% Reliability restored.

When threatened in his or her workshop, the engineer will activate a door lock system, barricading himself/herself with the contestant and only allowing people to enter the room, but not leave it. This allows for Guards to barge in more easily and prevent the contestant from escaping, until he/she pays.<br />
Threatening or attacking an engineer can give the contestant a code orange, and killing one can increase it to a code red.

If an engineer dies, they will drop the following:
*Clothing and armor: Engineer's hard hat, Shirt with tie, Jeans, Steel-toe safety boots
*Load-bearing gear: 1x SMG mag rig + Viper belt
**2 extra, full 40-round MP7 magazines
**A big purse
**Level 3 toolkit for engineers in workshops, Level 1 toolkit for all other engineers

Custom weapons
More information: Maze Customs

As an expansion of their workshop services, engineers are also qualified to offer Maze Customs services. The Maze Customs atelier uses workshop and engineering hardware to modify, enhance, and customize firearms for clients who would like to enhance further their weapons. The service is available to contestants, who may bring certain firearms to the atelier to have them customized.
A hospital room is a resting haven where people, as well as the contestant, can purchase medical assistance and other related services. Hospital rooms are often very busy, due to Mazeworld's dangerous nature. The medic is the main person in charge of a hospital room, and they are always accompanied by an assistant nurse.
Threatening or attacking a medic, nurse, or both can give the contestant a code orange, and killing either can increase it to a code red.

DNA change system
The DNA change system is a service offered by hospital rooms, which uses technology derived from their healing machines. It works on contestants and certain allies, and will analyze the subject's physio code, before allowing the player to edit this physio code as he/she pleases. It can even allow changing age, though the changes will only be apparent age - actual age does not change. The service also allows a partial species change, specifically it allows a human to become a halfling of any desired type, and vice versa.<br />
The service costs 1500 P$ per person.

It must be noted that it is also possible to fine-tune specifics, even beyond simply modifying the physio code itself. For example, the fourth number of a human physio code governs its owner's height. A 2 means &quot;Small (140-150 cm)&quot;, but it is possible to choose a precise height between 140 and 150 cm (for example, 143 cm), if the player wishes to do so.

NOTE: A contestant wanted by the Guards using this service will NOT help erasing the wanted level, as hospital rooms automatically send information about whom they healed or DNA-modified to authorities.

Disguise
This lists only the required clothing the contestant needs for the disguise to be successful. Note that wearing a HEV Suit or an EOD Suit cancels immediately the disguise as these suits cover the entirety of the wearer's clothes and are, as such, unsuitable for disguising.
|}
</div>

A hiring bureau is an important type of facility in Mazeworld. It is the Mazes' job-finding and assigning agency, which also doubles as a "pet shop" and slave market of sorts. A very important type of business, it is the main source of employment of Maze denizens and inhabitants, and where certain creatures and people land when captured, or after willingly selling themselves. The contestant can use both the market and the job-finding services, depending on the mission set and the amount of rooms visited.

As a shop
The hiring bureau contains eight cages, in which creatures of all kinds and origins may end up, for various reasons. They may be derelict people that are serving a punishment, domesticated creatures that need a new owner, people selling themselves on purpose to seek a master, or even mercenaries seeking for an employer. Contestants may purchase one of those creatures, who is then automatically assigned as his/her Ally, if he/she didn't have one already.

A contestant cannot sell himself/herself, as hirers are instructed to name-check anyone wanting to sell themselves, and are aware of the contestant's name. If he/she attempts to, the hirer will turn down their attempt and refuse. They can, however, put their ally for sale.

Rules of a hiring bureau
*Sells 8 random creatures from a specific list
*Only sells one of each creature
*May buy back allies, which are sold with their equipment and clothes for a rough estimate given by the hirer.
*Accepts credit.
*Accepts valuables and will exchange them for money or credit.

When threatened, the hirer will warn the contestant that his/her body is fitted with a heartbeat sensor, and that if he is killed, so will be all of the creatures in the cages (none of the creature killed will be credited to the contestant), as their bodies are also fitted with sensors - if the hirer dies, those sensors are rigged to a microbomb on their heads, which explodes if it no longer detects the hirer's heartbeat.<br/>
Threatening or attacking a hirer can give the contestant a code orange, and killing one can increase it to a code red.

As a job-finding agency
If a contestant is attempting Contract missions, rooms that are meant to be mission starters will be a hiring bureau, because the hiring bureau becomes a source of jobs and activities for them to attempt and gain money and reputation from. The more jobs completed, the more difficult the next ones become, and in turn, the more they pay off.

Aside from contestants, Mazeworld denizens also regularly use the Hiring Bureau's job-finding system, and it is even, for some, their primary source of revenue. Jobs are of varied nature; something as simple as an escort to go through dangerous rooms, to odd jobs such as bouncer, bodyguard, deliveries, item finding, and such. Some may even find full employment with specific people using the system as a medium.

The hiring bureau's system defines two categories of people: First, Employers, who post jobs and request services, indicate the payment they will promise if the job is done, and write off conditions. Those who reply to employers are called Volunteers. Hirers assign volunteers (which are either solo people, or teams, usually of 2, rarely more) to jobs depending on their reputation and the requests of both employers and volunteers, essentially acting as a very important middleman. Hirers also have access to the Mazes' teleporter system, which sends volunteers directly to the job's meeting point, and back once they are finished. There is no restriction on which species can be employers or volunteers, so long as they're sapient and capable of speaking the common language; even youkai can post and apply for jobs.

In order to be registered as either employer or volunteer, one must first sign up. Hirers may refuse people from signing up as either employer or volunteer if either group has too many members (a statistic that is given to them on their computers by the GMs). Signing up is quick, easy, and free - it only involves giving the hirer the full name, species, age, and desired group (employer or volunteer). Contestants are name-checked as well, and cannot become employers; and can only become volunteers during the Contracts missions.

Hirers are mandated by the Game Masters themselves and receive a daily pay of 250 P$/day. This job requires special qualifications and training, and may be a choice of career after selecting the right studies and qualifying for hirer training selection - which are people handpicked by the GMs themselves to become hirers. Such a high pay is explained by the fact hirers are a vital pillar of employment and activity for the Mazes.
A bionics workshop is a business in Mazeworld specialized in buying, selling, installing and removing bionic implants. People in charge of such businesses are called bio-engineers, but there is only one such person in the Mazes - this person is Lance Chaosclaw.

If threatened, Lance will either remain indifferent, or explode in maniacal laughter at the face of whomever is threatening him. However, he will not attempt anything to defend himself.
If Lance is killed in action, the contestant will not be able to use the bionics workshop anymore, and any subsequent room in which the bionics workshop was meant to be found will be instead considered a crime scene guarded by Maze Guards.
Threatening or attacking Lance can give the contestant a code orange, and killing him can increase it to a code red.

*A pair of fingerless gloves

Products sold
* Bionics

The man himself
Early days
Born to a couple of prosperous but unremarkable parents, Lance's father Sylas was a scientist living a quiet life and career as part of the Science Team of Physics and Chemistry, while his mother Janet worked as a weapon shop owner. He was the oldest of three siblings, all male. The second brother, Victor, died at the age of 14 in the children's realm from a mysterious and unexplained heart attack. The youngest brother, Falkner, went on to live as a librarian, but was known for streaks of bad luck, leading to repeated and numerous injuries and ensuing trips to the hospital.

Lance was known, as a child, for being one of the most successful students in the history of the Mazes, scoring nearly perfect grades with seemingly very little effort. Avid for knowledge in all sorts of fields and subjects, Lance was particularly attracted by scientific subjects, and became one of the very rare denizens of the Mazes to have some sort of fame in the regular Mazes while still attending the children's realm education.

As a cheerful and passionate child, Lance only sought solitude by choice and solely to devote himself to what he likes best - he is surpisingly sociable, though many have described him as "quirky", "very charismatic" yet "very peculiar".

Over the years, however, the young Chaosclaw attracted the attention of several figures; his intellect, his abilities as a student, and generally speaking, his personality and quirky behavior, have been seen as the symptoms of an abnormal individual by many - he was repeatedly analyzed and diagnosed by various medics. At the age of 10, following his entry in E2, Chaosclaw was tested for IQ (WAIS type test), and scored 153, a score that would make him a genius and a child prodigy by the test's standards.

While he was aware of his performance at school, he felt that there was no accomplishment in scoring perfect grades or reaching a high score in IQ tests, which he deemed to be "foolish". Later on, at the age of 14, Lance attempted enrolling in EVERY Science Team program at once, rather than a single one, and to the amazement of his teachers, managed to score high grades in every single test, with perfect scores in tests that would have allowed him entry in the Science Teams of Biotechnology/Genetics and Quantum Physics. He also demonstrated remarkable skills as a conventional engineer, and became the first, and to this date, the only student in the Mazes to have managed to essentially graduate multiple times, qualifying himself for entry in multiple fields of work.

Birth of a new scientific field
At the time of his graduation from the Mazes' children realm and his entry in the real Mazes, his almost inhumane skills attracted the interest of the Game Masters themselves, who have made the decision to personally support and fund his projects. Developing a keen interest in robotics, bio-technology, and generally everything touching to what Lance perceived as the "improvement of life", he has invented the field of biological engineering (commonly abbreviated as "bionics"). Working closely with other STs, Lance imposed himself as a new authority in the Mazes' scientific world, managing to create successful prototypes of a long-sought dream of many engineers and scientific: the bionic implant, the artificially created machine that would extend one's life.

Lance was granted access to the early drafts of the Life System Support prototype already tested in certain Failed contestants, with limited success, and was given the task to refine and improve on it; it had to be less bulky, more cost-efficient, and have less impact on its receiver's psyche and mental state; the early prototypes relied heavily on the use of chemical injectors, which injected a stream of substances such as epinephrine, morphine, certain other analgesics and benzodiazepines, in the host's system. Certain models also made use of steroids to improve strength and combat ability. However, this heavy reliance of drugs was disastrous for their hosts' mental state and psyche, who were reduced, more often than not, to little more than mental wrecks with immense powers.

Inspired by the very literal failures they represented, Lance's new drafts were motivated by certain ideologies which are now the cornerstones of his work today: bionic implants must respect the body and the mind, they must improve on the body without taking tolls on the mind, and must not trade off, or destroy the receiver's integrity in order to benefit from the bionics' new advantages. They had to be all gain, and none (or little) drawbacks.

Downfall, or skyrise?
Lance's own mind and psyche were, according to the medics who have routinely examined him throughout his childhood, riddled with personality disorders and troubles. Famous for his outbursts of nigh-stereotypical maniacal laughter, his slight speech impediments and his awkward social behavior, the various health experts who have examined Lance's case agreed on the following:
* Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD)
* Schizotypal personality disorder
* Narcissistic personality disorder
* Delusions of grandeur

Lance's obsession for his work and his perceived goal of improving the human race led to him being one of the first true trans-humanists of the Mazes. He is convinced, to the point of considering himself the "harbinger of a new era", that bionics are the Mazes' human race's future, and that until all of them choose to "improve" themselves with his implants, those who desire to be the best "will be the ones who chose to obtain implants".

After the success of his new Life System Support prototypes, Lance was allowed to work in the officially new Science Team of Biological Engineering, as its sole member. His close ties with the Game Masters, who have shown ever-increased interest in his work and mastery of this particular scientific field, led to him being a favorite of the GMs; he received a special, high-paying salary, and worked on the most important projects in the realm's history, the most notable of which is the development of the controversial Enhanced Life Support System, or E-LSS.

The E-LSS is a special, unique bionic implant, and the ultimate development of the original LSS and its past prototypes - a biomechanical heart capable of restarting itself regardless of its host body's condition. This heart was incapable of aging, required little maintenance, and Lance's highly dedicated work ensured that any repairs of improvements would guarantee that the implant would be ever better as time passes. The E-LSS project was, eventually, so successful, that the GMs were interested in installing it on someone in the Mazes to test out its capabilities.

That person was selected by the GMs, a certain Thomas Wight received the implant, on the condition that he accepts to be neutered by medics specialized in sex change (at the time, only select medics were trained to perform such treatments), in order to fully commit himself to his future job: to be the head of the Mazes' military as their future Colonel.
The experiment was successful, so successful that Wight had deliberately and repeatedly placed himself in situations that would have otherwise killed him; but thanks to the inhumane possibilities the E-LSS enhanced, he came back to life to slay his targets, every time he would suffer a wound, a hit or a blow that would have killed him.

This experiment was Lance's consecration as a scientific prodigy and his biggest personal achievement. Although he had never officially taken sides in the Human-youkai rivalry, he had involuntarily and significantly contributed to the anti-youkai side. Despite this, Lance always advocated himself as a neutral party, only acting to further his goals and his beliefs; though he has repeatedly stated he refused to create bionic implants for youkai beings, stating that he worked to "improve human life, not youkai life", and that he firmly refused the idea.

While many perceived this standpoint as being anti-youkai, Lance was in reality simply apathetic to the entire conflict. What it did do, however, was further convincing himself that he was the "only one" capable of working in the biological engineering field, and that he was "not only the best, but the only one with a pure, real vision for the humans in this world", again in his own words, deepening his narcissistic issues and delusions of godlike grandeur. Despite the indisputable signs that the bionics prodigy was reaching comical levels of delusion, the GMs continued to follow his requests of never allowing anybody unauthorized to be taught about biological engineering. As such, the ST is still closed, to be constituted of only one member until further notice, which was likely to never come.

Today, Lance owns the sole Bionics Workshop in the Mazes and openly commercializes his services and his products to all humans in the Mazes with the money and the will to "improve" themselves, in his words. He is sympathetic to anybody supporting his cause, regardless of race and origins, though will always ultimately be interested in the human genre.
A clothes shop is a business in Mazeworld specialized, as the name implies, in buying and selling clothing and armor items. They may also sell backpacks. People in charge of clothes shops are called tailors.

Rules of a clothes shop
*Sells 8 random pieces of clothing and armor
*Sells 8 random Load-bearing gear items
*Only sells one exemplary of every item displayed.
*Buys back clothes, armor and backpack for 50% of their value.
*Accepts credit.
*Accepts valuables and will exchange them for money or credit.
*For 3 items bought, the fourth is free.

When threatened, a tailor will attempt defending himself/herself using a Stiletto, and will threaten to stab the contestant if he/she doesn't stop, drop any items the contestant attempted to steal (if any), and leave the room.<br />
Threatening or attacking a tailor can give the contestant a code orange, and killing one can increase it to a code red.

If a tailor dies, they will drop the following:

*Stiletto knife
*Load-bearing gear: 1x Utility rig
*Clothing and armor: T-Shirt, Baseball cap, Mountain pants, Regular shoes
*A big purse
*All the items in the shop, as well as the shop's till, are permanently locked in the crate they came from.
