This page will detail the rules and guidelines on the IRC channel of Mazeworld, to ensure a proper and enjoyable experience of all users, be they simple spectators or active players. We assume that you are already familiar with the basics of using IRC.

General rules

  • I, the admin, as well as the moderators, reserve themselves the right to moderate the channel as they see fit to enforce the rules on this page. By entering our channel, you are agreeing to abide by those rules.
    • All rules here apply on all of our channels. Our official channels are #MazeWorld and #MzWBeta.
  • Don't be a dick.
  • You are considered to have a right to free speech and free opinion and that you are free to express it while on our channels, no matter the topic, though we wish to remind that sensitive topics (including but not limited to, religion, theology, politics, news events, laws and regulations, etc.) may be a source of unpleasantness, drama, and/or flaming. The only rule and requirement is to remain civil, courteous, and refrain from personal attacks, blatant lack of respect. No exceptions, no ifs, no buts, no matter the stance or the opinion.
  • Respect the other users regardless of position or importance. Will not be tolerated, including but not limited to: Trolling, bashing/flaming, insulting, personal attacks, unwarranted criticism, and in general, any and all lack of respect whether direct or implied and regardless of the target.
  • Ban evasion is considered a particularly grave offense. If a member of the staff suspects you are ban evading, be forewarned that we WILL do whatever is necessary to check identities. If a suspected ban evader's identity is confirmed to match a banned person's identity, the punishment will be a swift and unannounced ban with full repercussions. DO NOT ATTEMPT BAN EVASION; IT'S LIKELY YOU WERE BANNED FOR A GOOD REASON.

When a session isn't ongoing

In addition to the general rules, specific guidelines must be respected when a session is not in progress.

  • Do not ask for a session to be run for you out of the blue UNLESS the GM explicitly told it is okay. Request a slot on the schedule. Respect your assignments; if you don't show up to play your game, it's your loss and the slot is lost. We may also reserve the right to call off, move, or remove sessions from schedule at any given time, typically for real-life issues.
  • Do not abuse IRC bot commands. Repeated unjustified use of the commands is not allowed on #MazeWorld, and is only tolerated on #MzWBeta if there is no ongoing sessions or activity happening; although note we are flexible about what constitute abuse. Generally speaking, don't disturb ongoing conversations or game sessions.. If you absolutely must test the commands a lot, you can /query MazeBot; MazeBot's commands work in private.

During sessions

  • If you are not the player while a session is in progress, you may only talk (between parentheses), like this, to dissociate in-character (IC) and out-of-character (OOC) discussion - do so sparingly. Extensive out of game discussion is best relegated to our sister channel, #MzWBeta.
  • Limit OOC discussion to a minimum; I don't mind users commenting on a player's feat or on amazing or surprising dice results, rolls, or other odds, but don't start page-long discussions while a session is in progress; it slows it down and it's disrespectful for the player.

Infraction to the rules may lead to being kicked from the channel with a warning. Reiterations may lead to forced death of contestant, and temporary, or permanent bans from the IRC channel.

  • Contestants killed due to the player breaking the rules, are listed as having been "Canned", the same cause of death as players abandoning a contestant.
  • The banned player's contestant progress is also reset to zero on all stats, effectively rendering their progress null and void.
