The end result of years of handmade modifications of the .44 Special, which were crafted to propel bullets at higher velocity than normal for better hunting performances, the .44 Magnum caliber was developed by a writer and outdoorsman called Elmer Keith as one of those custom handloads of the .44 Special. He encouraged '''Smith &amp; Wesson''' and '''Remington''' to produce a commercial version of this new, high-pressure loading, as well as firearms for this caliber. Against unarmored or lightly-armored targets, the '''.44 Magnum''''s performance is quite satisfactory - two or three shots suffice to take down such targets. However, as soon as it faces better protected [[Encounters|enemies]], the caliber's performance drops quickly. As such, .44 Magnum can be considered a good finisher, or a reliable backup caliber to other, more potent ones in weapons of different Classes, as all weapons in Mazeworld that use this caliber are [[List of Class 3 Weapons|Class 3]] ones.

The caliber is quite rare - only two weapons are chambered for this caliber.
