The LifeVest, also known as the Wearable Automatic Defibrillator, colloquially called "the vest" or "the wad", is as the name implies, a portable, wearable automatic defibrillator. Its purpose is to save the life of wearers susceptible of cardiac arrest.
Strategy
The LifeVest's effects are very useful, however certain conditions must be met. First of all, it will not work if it isn't loaded with a HITB battery. Wearing a LifeVest with no power is useless.
Next, it will only activate if the wearer suffers fatal Pain damage (reaching the "Death" threshold on the Pain table; normally 150% or more). Instead of dying, the LifeVest will detect the loss of a pulse, and will deplete the HITB battery to shock the wearer back into life, though the Pain level will only be reduced to 50% - further care or rest is required to fully recover. This is automatic and instantaneous; the wearer is prevented from death at the cost of completely depleting the battery.
Its uses are obvious; it is a godsend for contestants engaged in heavy combat or susceptible to receive a lot of damage. While it will do nothing for other aspects of battle damage such as Limb damage or Bleeding, Pain remains the principal responsible of death, and the LifeVest is a worn "second chance". The replacement of a HITB battery takes one turn, which may be relevant for Contestants who may need to use it more than once.
For the purposes of inventory management, extra LifeVests stored in the inventory weigh 2 units each.
Fairly obviously, the LifeVest has an unique shape and doesn't require identification.
