Must not be confused with the real-life Game Master, who runs the game.

A Game Master, in-universe (Also called simply a GM) is a supernatural and immortal being that rules and administrates Mazeworld.
Overview
Their immense power and near complete control of Mazeworld is explained by the fact they have created the entire realm, and exist solely thanks to them. It is unknown why or how Mazeworld was created, but numerous rumors circulate between its dwellers and inhabitants, going as far as to call the GMs deities; although not many people really believe they are, and the GMs themselves do not like this definition, it's technically right.
Game Masters are essentially immortal concentrations of sentient energy, but have the power to materialize for themselves a "shell", which is nothing more than a body to house their true selves - which can be described as their "souls" of sorts. They are known to having no need to eat, sleep, regenerate, or reproduce, although they do willingly consume certain beverages for pleasure - most notably coffee.
Identity of the Game Masters
There are three Game Masters in Mazeworld. Despite the fact they are their own kind of being, the GMs take up recognizable appearances for their own convenience. They have separate given names, but they prefer being called "Game Master" or "GM".
The first takes the appearance of a human male. His name is Sergey Mikoyan, and he is the GM contestants hear on the loudspeakers in every room of the mazes. Being the only GM heard by contestants, it is widely believed he is the only one who has the ability to talk - although all three GMs are capable of speaking. His job is to watch over the contestants and track their performance and statistics.
The second takes the appearance of a youkai female. Her name is Hebizuka Jinkou, and she is the GM charged of randomness, room generation, and so on. She is sometimes referred to as the RNG, a double entendre on "Random Number Generator" - which is her main method of working - and on "Random Number God", which is basically, what she is.
The third takes the appearance of a genderless cyborg, although referred to as male. His name is Elias Keiban, and is the GM in charge of the Maze Personnel, the monsters and everything found in the rooms, living or not. He is the one who brings up ideas of new items, creatures, and other things to add to Mazeworld, and manages those already existing.
Origins
The GMs are the most important beings of Mazeworld as a realm. Acting as overseers, administrators and treated as highly as deities by denizens of the Mazes, the Game Masters are however, not living beings in the regular sense. The bodies of Game Masters are merely physical embodiments of an extremely powerful, but formless entity, which has no name but is the source of the immense powers a GM enjoys, but also the very source of stability for Mazeworld as a realm. This entity "possesses", in a way, a physical body, in order to be able to actually exert control on Mazeworld and do the jobs a GM has to do.
In the event those bodies are destroyed or no longer usable for any reason, the entity leaves these bodies, and seeks out for a replacement. Generally, whatever killed or destroyed the body becomes the new host, gaining Game Master powers and instantly being elevated to the same rank as one. It is also possible for the entity to seek out for additional bodies to possess, to be able to exert greater control, or on the physical bodies' request, if they see fit to have an extra member in their ranks.
As a rule of thumb, the entity needs at least one host body to be able to retain stability, but it will always seek out at least two, or three, sometimes more than three, simply to ensure self-preservation.
Without a host body, however, the entity would be left without any way to control the realm and keep it in check. The entity is merely a source of energy that needs a physical body to retain balance and stability. Were all the GM bodies to be destroyed and the entity unable, for any reason, to find a replacement, Mazeworld's stability would then be in jeopardy, and thus in danger of collapsing, which would have the terminally catastrophic effect of making it implode within The Interloper, causing Mazeworld to cease existing altogether. Such a scenario is only possible if whatever has defeated the GMs would die shortly after, or somehow leave the realm.
Notes
The Game Masters can be encountered as fought enemies.
- Hebizuka alone is the final boss of Survival Mode.
- The GMs are encountered during secret ending fights.
