The Poison status is one of the vital statistics tracked on every contestant. This is a counter, which starts off by default as disabled, and turns enabled when the contestant is poisoned.
When the counter becomes enabled, the contestant will instantly feel it, and a countdown of 5 turns will start. When this countdown reaches 0, the contestant will die.
It must be noted that encounters and allies may also be poisoned. In this case, a countdown is also placed on their lives.
Causes and effects
- Although the feelings describe trouble with the contestant's bodily functions, no ailments are suffered while in this state - it is mostly a countdown to death.
A contestant may be poisoned through a variety of ways. The most common being:
- Bitten or attacked by an enemy with a poisonous attack
- Ingesting poisoned food
Other ways to be poisoned exist as well, such as specific traps, items, or weapons.
Fortunately, there are a few ways to get rid of poisoning, or at the very least, to slow down its process:
- Consuming sodium nitrite antidote cures instantly poisoning.
- Encountering and paying a medic for complete curing.
- Attempting to defecate, and winning both games of Heads or Tails will increase the counter by 3 turns (if the counter is enabled).
- Attempting to vomit, and winning one of the two games of Heads or Tails will increase the counter by 2 turns (if the counter is enabled). Winning both games will completely cure from poisoning (along with the other effects of vomiting, so use with caution).
EXCEPTION: In the case of direct injection of cyanide, which is highly concentrated, the contestant will instantly die instead of being simply poisoned.
Poison in encounters
The encounters the contestant will meet may also be subject to poisoning. The most common methods of poisoning an enemy involve food spiked with cyanide, poison-tipped crossbow bolts and bow arrows. Please refer to those articles for more information. The same 5-turn countdown occurs to those encounters when they are poisoned, and are subject to the same rules. An encounter may or may not be affected by poisoning depending on several vital characteristics, such as inherent immunity, or thickness of skin. Refer to the individual articles of each encounter for more information about their sensitivity to poison - if no particular mention of immunity to poison is mentioned, they may be affected by poison, barring certain rare exceptions.
NOTE: Direct cyanide injection will result in instant death for affected enemies as well, if applicable.
