The 83.5mm rocket, sometimes called bunker buster, is a rocket warhead developed specifically for the IMI SMAW and its variants.

It is a type of explosive ordnance, as such it delivers explosive-type damage.

Real-life data

The 83.5mm rocket was specifically developed for the SMAW rocket launcher, also known as Shoulder-launched Multipurpose Assault Weapon. The rocket is colloquially known as a bunker buster, due to its primary purpose as an explosive warhead designed to penetrate hardened targets.

As its nickname implies, the 83.5mm rocket is designed as an assault weapon ordnance, with a secondary, anti-armor purpose.
Multiple variants of 83.5mm rockets exist, including:

  • The HEDP (High-Explosive, Dual Purpose) rocket, effective against bunkers, masonry, concrete, and light armor.
  • The HEAA (High-Explosive, Anti Armor) with a longer shape, is specifically designed to destroy armored targets, such as conventional tanks without additional armor. It is capable of penetrating up to 60 centimeters (24 inches) of steel.

It is one of the loudest weapons on a battlefield, producing up to 152.3 decibels. In comparison, the threshold at which noise becomes painful in human hearing is in average 140 decibels.

How to read this?

Unsurprisingly, the 83.5mm rocket deals high damage. As an explosive ordnance, and a rocket launcher-grade warhead designed for anti-armor purpose, it is a deadly force to be reckoned with, benefiting from the advantage of explosive damage type bonus of being able to blow off limbs from its targets.

While these may be strong advantages, this is a rare type of ammunition, that can be found at random in the rooms in boxes of either one or six warheads, but it is also a heavy kind of ammunition - being rockets, a single one weighs 3 units, rendering ammunition conservation difficult; not to mention the somewhat high price of a single rocket (100 P$).
