The 5.7x28mm (sometimes called FN 5.7x28mm) is a personal defense weapon cartridge developed by Fabrique Nationale. It is one of the three armor-piercing rounds of the game, characterized by relatively low base power but low drop of performance as the target armor class increases. It is considered a low-tier caliber.

Developed by Fabrique Nationale alongside the weapons it was conceived for, the 5.7x28mm is an original and innovative caliber, developed for SMG-sized weapons for crews and personnel who can't use an assault or carbine rifle, yet need better firepower than that provided by submachine guns. It was developed in response to NATO's demand for creation of a personal defense weapon class of firearm, specifically for use in the FN P90 PDW and the associated handgun, the FN Five-seveN.
The bullet's conception, made of penetrating steel with a plastic polymer tip, is close to that of standard 5.56x45mm NATO, making it easy to produce as it can be made on the same production lines than those used for the rifle caliber. The cartridge showed superior performance to 9x19mm Parabellum - it is twice lighter, faster, and has a much flatter trajectory, and of course has armor-piercing capabilities.
This is a direct competitor to Heckler & Koch's 4.6x30mm, which likewise responded to NATO's demand by creating their own PDW caliber and weapons.

Between the three armor-piercing calibers in the game, the 5.7x28mm is the middle one. It is considered a low-tier caliber due to its low power, being only the 24th most powerful caliber in the game (6th lowest), requiring at best three shots to kill an enemy.
Its armor-piercing property remains an undeniable positive point; 5.7x28mm will punch through up to Kevlar-2 resistance with quasi similar efficiency - notable drops in performance only begin once the target has Kevlar-3 and better armor class. However, it is definitely not an offensive cartridge and is better used as a finisher or for self-defense.
5.7x28mm ammunition is rare, fitting only in two weapons of the game, the P90 and Five-seveN both made by Fabrique Nationale. Such ammunition can be found at random in the rooms, or bought in a gun shop/weapon shop for 6 P$/round (in boxes of 50 or 100).
Alternatively, such ammo can be found in a WPN-4 crate (260 rounds alongside a P90 and a Five-seveN) or an AMMO-3 crate (100 rounds).
