The .50 Action Express (also known simply as .50 AE) is a large caliber handgun cartridge developed by firearms designer Evan Whildin of Action Arms, and made famous by the Desert Eagle handgun. It is one of the first popular .50 caliber handgun cartridges, and probably the most well-known.
