The .30-06 Springfield (more rarely known as 7.62x63mm) is a large rifle caliber developed in 1906. It was the US Army's standardized cartridge for nearly fifty years, until the introduction of its successor, the 7.62x51mm NATO in 1954. It is the iconic cartridge of the most famous Allied weapon in World War II, the M1 Garand.

This caliber's power allows for shots well over 1 km of distance. As such, it is considered a high-tier caliber in Mazeworld, more powerful than its successor, the 7.62x51mm NATO.

Real-life data

Invented prior to World War I, the .30-06 Springfield cartridge was developed as an improvement of the backwards and short-lived .30-03. Designed alongside a modification of the M1903 Springfield rifle, the M1906, the .30-06 was designed with increased maximum effective range in mind, after a study revealed that the WWI American weapons were far outclassed by European designs and calibers.

The .30-06 Springfield was designed for use with the Springfield M1903, the former WWI service rifle of the US Army, before the introduction of the M1 Garand. It was also used in the BAR machine gun, and in a few other weapons.

It remained in use with the US Military for nearly 50 years, making it one of the longest-lived service cartridges of the world, before the introduction and standardization of the 7.62x51mm NATO and the rifle it was introduced with, the M14 rifle.

How to read this?

Capable of killing unarmored targets in one shot, and severely crippling or damaging most targets even with better armor class, the .30-06 Springfield is a caliber as powerful as it is venerable. True to its reputation, it is one of the most powerful calibers of Mazeworld.

This is a rare caliber, used only by a few weapons in Mazeworld. As such, it might be a little difficult to find ammunition for them, should the contestant be equipped with one. Aside from being found at random in the rooms, it can be bought at gun shops and weapon shops for the quite expensive price of 5 P$ per round, in boxes of either 20 or 100 rounds.
It may also be found in Type-N crates, 80 rounds being available inside of each.

It is a recommended cartridge for WWII purists, or people seeking a powerful round of better grade than the 7.62x51mm NATO, without going in the expensive league of highly powerful and specialized cartridges such as the .338 Lapua Magnum. Due to its rarity, it is not an often used cartridge, despite its potential.
