The .408 Chey Tac is a high-caliber rifle cartridge developed in 2001 and suited for use in the CheyTac Intervention M200, of which it is the only weapon compatible.
Oriented for extremely long range fire, with an effective range well over 2000 meters, its use is suited for both anti-personnel and anti-matériel purposes.

It is an extremely powerful round, able to cause tremendous damage on whoever is on the business end of the bullet. As such, it is considered a top-tier caliber.

Real-life data

The .408 Chey Tac is a specialized, rimless cartridge designed in 2001 for use with the CheyTac Intervention M200. It was created along with a smaller, similar caliber, the .375 Chey Tac, as part of the Long Range Rifle System program. It was designed primarily for long-range anti-personnel purposes, as well as anti-sniper (or counter-sniper) capabilities. This caliber is extremely fast, topping at 1100 meters per second while in flight, making it one of the fastest bullets in the world, more than three times the speed of sound.

The cartridge is not recognized by official sanctioning bodies - thus technically the .408 Chey Tac is a wildcat cartridge; i.e., a cartridge of custom dimensions that isn't recognized as a standard. However, it has been designed in the hope of creating a niche filling the gap between the .338 Lapua Magnum and the .50 BMG, both of which are being used in sniper scenarios, but with substantial differences (the former is an anti-personnel round, the latter an anti-materiel).

How to read this?

Devastatingly powerful, the .408 Chey Tac's performance ranks it as the third most powerful round of the game, behind the 12.7x108mm and the .50 BMG, and the most powerful chambering available for firearms than can accept a silencer.

Virtually anything that is targeted by such a caliber will have its day ruined - it is able to kill or severely maim almost any non-heavily armored target, and even those that are will feel the bullet going through and damaging them badly.

Much like its bigger cousins, the .408 Chey Tac makes up for its excellent performance by being very rare and expensive; it is compatible with only two weapons, and can only be found at random in boxes of 20 or 70 rounds. For contestants wishing to purchase ammunition, the very high price of 16 P$ per round will probably turn down easily those with tight budgets.
