The 7.62x51mm NATO (also known as .308 Winchester or 7.62 NATO) is a large rifle caliber developed in 1954, and suited for battle rifles, sniper rifles, and in belted form, machine guns.
It is quite a powerful round, with whoever being on the wrong end of such a bullet may be facing quite some trouble. Its power, fame, and the kind of weapons it can be used in made the reputation of the 7.62 NATO. In Mazeworld, it is considered a high-tier caliber.
Real-life data
Technically speaking, the military 7.62x51mm NATO and the civilian .308 Winchester are roughly identical, and any can be fired in any .308 Win/7.62 NATO weapon.
Its ballistic performance is close to its World War II cousin it replaced, the .30-06 Springfield, making it a favorite of veterans used to the old round. Introduced in 1954 with the famous M14 rifle (which replaced its legendary .30-06 cousin, the M1 Garand) and the no less famous M60 machine gun, the 7.62x51mm NATO round enjoyed and still enjoys popularity, as it is still a widely used round.
Primarily intended as a battle rifle round, then superseded by the 5.56x45mm NATO with the advent of assault rifles, it has found a second life with sniper rifles, such as the Heckler & Koch PSG-1, and the modernized version of the M14, the M14 EBR.

As a high-tier caliber, it is the tenth most powerful round in the game. Capable of killing an unarmored target in one shot, and severely crippling most human-sized targets should they not wear at least Type 3 Kevlar vest, it is quite a threat for whoever is on the business end of a weapon chambered in this caliber.
With the exception of the M60E3 and the HK21E, which are belt-fed machine guns, all of the weapons using this caliber are either battle rifles or sniper rifles, a difference that is not that big in practice - and even thinner when said battle rifles may have scopes available.
As a rule of thumb, with such a caliber, there are two options available depending on the weapon (and equipped accessories) used: either firing two, or three shots to the chest, or trying to aim (best with scope mode) to the head, should do the job in most situations.
7.62 NATO ammunition is moderately rare, and belted ammo even more so, as respectively, only nine, and two weapons use them, and the non-belted version can be found in boxes of either 20 or 100 rounds, while the belted rounds can be found in 200-round belts for the M60E3 and in 50-round belts for the HK21E. At gun shops and weapons shops, with a price of 4 P$ per round, it is a moderately expensive round, remaining quite affordable. It may also be found inside the WPN-7 crate, which contains an ArmaLite AR-10, a scope for the AR-10, and 180 rounds.
It must be noted that belts for the M60E3 and for the HK21E are not interchangeable.
