The 9x18mm Makarov (also known as 9x18mm PM, nicknamed 9mm Mak) is a handgun cartridge developed in 1951 by the Soviet Union. It is a somewhat rare cartridge used in handguns and submachine guns. It is considered a very low-tier caliber due to its low power and velocity.
Real-life data
The caliber's history starts in the early stages of the Cold War. The Soviet Union used, for the Second World War and the first years of the Cold War, the 7.62x25mm Tokarev caliber as their main handgun cartridge, mainly for use in their famed pistol, the TT-33. Soviet armed forces noticed shortcomings with their 7.62mm pistol, most notably the fact that it had a bad tendency of inadvertently dropping its magazine while operating it.
Because of this, the Soviet armed forces wanted a weapon that was lighter, equipped with a heel release instead of a push button, and used a different caliber. This resulted in the 9x18mm Makarov, designed in 1951 and adapted for use to the newly designed Makarov PM pistol, developed roughly at the same time. Both the weapon and the ammunition were cheap and easy to manufacture - the pistol itself is a cheap and easy to manufacture blowback pistol, while 9x18mm Makarov ammo uses clad metal cases and simple, full-metal jacketed lead bullets, some of which are loaded with hardened steel cores for light armor-piercing purposes.
Because the Soviet government requested that the new caliber was incompatible with NATO firearms, the 9x18mm Makarov is different than its NATO counterpart, the famous 9x19mm Parabellum.
Ballistically inferior to its German-born counterpart, the performance of 9x18mm is closer to calibers such as the .380 ACP - it is a variant of the German-made 9mm Ultra, as a more powerful alternative to the 9x17mm/.380 ACP caliber originally used by Walther PP pistols. It was designed to be the most powerful caliber available to function in this kind of pistol safely.

Among the weakest cartridges available, 9x18mm Makarov caliber is considered to be rather anemic, being less powerful than its European counterpart, 9x19mm Parabellum. In practice however, this also applies for the contestant's enemies. Some of them may be equipped with a 9x18mm weapon, in which case they may be less of a threat. With higher-grade armor, starting at Kevlar-4, the 9x18mm bullets become a nigh-insignificant threat even with sustained fire.
This caliber has, however, the advantage of being cheap and, when found, available usually in reasonably high quantity every time. As such, 9x18mm Makarov rounds are quantity over quality - shooting long bursts makes up for the individually low power of every round. Compatible with ten weapons, 9x18mm Makarov is moderately easy to obtain, and shines best when used to "spam" shots at enemies.
9x18mm Makarov ammunition can be found at random rooms, in one of the ten compatible weapons' magazines, or at a gun shop or weapon shop if they have said compatible weapons, where it is sold for 0.8 P$/round in boxes of 50 or 250.
