Real-life data

Intended as a low-velocity grenade for handheld grenade launchers, the 40mm NATO grenade family, officially designated as 40mm LV (Low Velocity), and sometimes 40x46mm, was intended as the smaller, personal weapons-oriented counterpart to the larger, vehicle-mounted oriented 40x53mm HV (High Velocity) grenades.

Developed in the 1960s by the US Army, those 40mm low velocity grenades were originally intended for the M79 "Blooper" grenade launcher and the M203 underbarrel grenade launcher, an M16 series accessory. It was developed in several variants ; high-explosive grenade, buckshot grenade, CS gas canister, smoke grenade|smoke canister, and more.
