The 40x46mm grenade is a kind of explosive ordnance developed in the 1960s by the US Army. It is part of the 40mm grenade family, of which larger grenades such as the 40x51mm and the 40x53mm exist.

It is a type of explosive ordnance, as such it delivers explosive-type damage.

Real-life data

Intended as a low-velocity grenade for handheld grenade launchers, the 40x46mm grenade was intended as the small counterpart to the larger, vehicle-mounted oriented 40x53mm which is a high-velocity grenade.

Developed in the 1960s by the US Army, it was intended for the M79 "Blooper" grenade launcher and the M203 underbarrel grenade launcher, a M16 series accessory. It was developed in several variants- high-explosive, buckshot grenade, non-lethal CS gas, and more.

How to read this?

As one would expect, 40x46mm explosions deal high damage. As an explosive ordnance, and ammunition for grenade launchers, it is a deadly force to be reckoned with, benefiting from the advantage of explosive damage type bonus of being able to blow off limbs from its targets.

While these may be strong advantages, this is a somewhat rare type of ammunition, though not as rare as other explosive ordnance thanks to the availability of underslung grenade launchers which come equipped with the grenades. 40x46mm grenades can be found at random in the rooms in boxes of six, but it is also a somewhat heavy kind of ammunition - each weighs 1 unit, rendering ammunition conservation a bit harder than with standard weapons. A single grenade costs 55 P$, but as they are always found in boxes of 6, barring ammo found in weapons themselves, they will cost 330 P$ for 6 grenades.
