.357 Magnum (also referred to as .357 S&W Magnum) is a large caliber handgun cartridge developed in the inter-war period by Smith & Wesson, as the magnum version of .38 Special. It is a very popular revolver caliber, though there exist semi-automatic pistols that can chamber the round.
