The .50 Action Express (also known simply as .50 AE) is a large caliber handgun cartridge developed by firearms designer Evan Whildin of Action Arms. It is considered a medium-tier caliber, but is the best of medium-tier calibers in Mazeworld.

Real-life data

The .50 Action Express caliber went through difficulties at its introduction in 1988 due to the substantial size of its bullet, which was not actually 0.500 inch long but in fact 0.510 inch. According to the US National Firearms Act, regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), a weapon chambered for a caliber over .50 (12.7mm) is considered a Destructive Device, making them very tightly regulated and is banned for use by civilians in certain states of the USA.

Because of this, production of .50 AE was slightly altered so that the bullet meets the BATFE's regulations and has now a bullet exactly .50 inch long.

Magnum Research/IMI's Desert Eagle pistol was the first firearm produced chambered in this caliber, though other manufacturers produced their own afterwards: AMT's [[[AMT Automag V|Automag V]], LAR's [[[LAR Grizzly Mark V|Grizzly]] (both of them semi-automatic pistols), and Magnum Research's BFR, a single-action revolver.

The caliber's recoil, known for being substantial and hard to recoil, is in fact not marginally higher than that of .44 Magnum, though the most significant impact on the difference is the weapon itself - there is a noticeable recoil difference between a semi-automatic and a revolver of the same caliber (a Desert Eagle chambered in .44 Magnum will have somewhat less recoil than a S&W Model 29.)

How to read this?

The beastly .50 AE delivers monstrous, almost unnecessarily high energy, for a handgun cartridge. Because of this, it easily rivals rifle calibers in terms of raw power.

The primary advantage of such a caliber is the power it delivers: two shots at best suffice to kill, unless the target has significant armor - in which case the .50 AE's performance quickly drops. It remains a noticeably powerful caliber, with good uses possible in both offensive and defensive scenarios.

Such power is countered by other facts. With only 3 weapons chambered in this caliber, it is one of the rarest of the game. .50 AE can only be found at random in the rooms, or bought in a gun shop or a weapon shop, where ammunition will be sold for 8 P$/round in boxes of 20, which is an understandably, but still substantially high price tag.
