An '''archaeologist''' (colloquially, '''archeo''', plural '''archeos''') is a member of the Maze Personnel who is employed by the Game Masters to explore less controlled areas of the Mazes, particularly the outside areas, but generally any unpopulated or less regulated rooms. Archaeologists know about religious legends concerning the [[Cardinal Gods]], the '''youkai''' and are knowledgeable in mythology in general, allowing them to know what a mythical creature is and what might be their traits.

The work of archaeologist in the Mazes allow them to access areas usually restricted, such as the "far lands" of outside areas, otherwise unreachable by contestants due to the presence of a [[mazeworld's layout|force field]]. When investigating in outside areas, archaeologists are tasked to report about what they find that could be useful for the mazes; creatures, resources, treasures, anything useful. In a way, they are the scouts of Mazeworld's untamed areas; this is what defined their reputation as adventurers.

An archaeologist (colloquially, archeo, plural archeos) is a member of the Maze Personnel who is employed to explore the Uncivilized Area, for the purpose of uncovering and studying ancient artifacts, objects, and other traces of the past civilizations of the Mazes, as well as preserve their existence and teach about them to the future generations.

They are also well-known for their knowledge in mineralogy and anything regarding valuable materials. They are experts in the identification of valuables, and thus are the one person a contestant wants to meet for identifying unknown gems.

Like their scientist colleagues, archaeologists sometimes also become teachers.

They are paid on a day-to-day basis in exchange of their work. An archaeologist gains on average 120 P$/day.

Identification service

Archaeologists are one of the more specialized kind of Maze Personnel, working exclusively in a particular domain. They remain nonetheless useful to the contestant, which may meet one of them for identification of any unidentified valuable they carry, composing the archeo's primary service. The fee for identification is 50 P$ per item.

Additionally, they often propose an alternative service, in the form of valuable tips or information about possible rooms or dangers that await ahead of the contestant; which they will give in exchange of extra money.

As allies, they will usually stay loyal to the contestant, although the fact they are covetous must be taken in account; valuables easily distract them. They have the advantage of providing automatic identification of any unknown valuables the contestant might come across, as well as the fact they are not reluctant nor afraid of fighting if the need arises. As such, ally archeos are relatively versatile and are quite interesting to have around.
