Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine drug, and a powerful sedative. In real-life, Lorazepam exhibits all six intrisic benzodiazepine effects: anxiolytic, amnesic, sedative, anticonvulsant, antiemetic (combats nausea) and muscle relaxant. It has such a strong sedative effect, it can be used for short-time treatment of insomnia and severe sleep trouble with ease. It has also been used to treat acute seizures, anxiety, and used as a sedative to calm down aggressive or excited patients.

It isn't without its side-effects, though; long-term effects include tolerance and dependance to the substance, and withdrawal may cause paradoxical effects, such as increased anxiety or psychosis. It is also not recommended for use on children, elderly, or pregnant patients. Additionally, countraindications exist for patients suffering from ataxia, respiratory failure, sleep apnea, and certain other conditions.

Strategy

Lorazepam is a very particular item, unique in that its effects are of a neutral nature, being neither beneficial nor hindering per se; only the way it is used determines its usefulness. As a powerful sedative, the substance drops victims into a state of forced sleep for 10 turns in a matter of seconds, and from which it is impossible to wake up until the counter depletes.

Naturally, it is not recommended to use this substance on oneself or allies, unless the contestant wishes for some reason to be asleep and wants a surefire way to find sleep on the spot. It is similar to the Resting ability, without the need to play heads or tails - instead succeeding immediately, with appropriate effects.

Lorazepam may be used in one of several ways. Used as a weapon, one may directly inject the substance into the system of any encounter that can be affected by Poison. If successful, the sedative will then run through the blood vessels of the victim, putting it to sleep quickly.
It may also be used to craft Tranq darts, used by the Fukiya, which allows for delivery of the sedative using a ranged weapon.

Being a syringe, it is strongly required the drug is kept until the contestant finds a medic or a peaceful scientist to identify the pill, as it shares its appearance with Cyanide, Epinephrine, Heroin, Morphine and a form of Placebo.
