A Maze Guard is a member of the Maze Personnel and an iconic, almost ubiquitous creature in Mazeworld. Maze Guards represent law enforcement in Mazeworld and are basically the Mazes' police officers. They are armed, like Maze Soldiers, but unlike them, they are generally neutral, promoting peacekeeping and problem solving by more pacific means, rather than making use of deadly force.

Guards enforce a set of laws and attach a Wanted Level to perpetrators they see or know about. Although Guards need to be present to enforce those laws and proceed to arrestations, anyone can be pegged with a Wanted Level if they have been reported.

Despite their generally peaceful nature, Maze Guards tend to dislike youkai, and further participate, along with the Maze Soldiers, to the segregation between humans and youkai. Youkai are not exempt from respecting the laws, but their treatment is even worse than that of human outlaws: they are often executed right off the bat, rather than made into prisoners. This explains why there are never any youkai prisoners.

Because the job of Maze Guard may be particularly dangerous, they are paid on a day-to-day basis, depending on their rank and branch. The base pay of a standard Maze Guard is 120 P$/day.

Maze Guards are iconic members of the Maze Personnel. For the contestant, they will either be neutral, friendly and talkative cops, or one of their worst enemies.

Although they are armed, they are not as deadly as Soldiers in terms of training and equipment, even for the higher ranked ones. As a result, Guards are less of a potential threat than Soldiers can be.
Nevertheless, it is most often a bad idea to provoke them, or to cause trouble. As members of law enforcement, they WILL attempt anything they can to fulfill their duty, regardless of the wanted level of the perpetrator - and by definition, of the contestant himself/herself.

Arresting

A Maze Guard has the ability to arrest perpetrators using their handcuffs. Only they can perform an arrest - the handcuffs are used to immobilize the perpetrators, then Guards use their clearance to proceed and punish according to wanted level; either confiscation, or detainment.

All Guards carry handcuffs, and it is possible to take them, should a contestant find a dead Maze Guard. More information on the handcuffs article.

Disguise

A contestant can disguise as a Maze Guard if the following conditions are met:

  • Wearing only the clothes of a Maze Guard (body armors tolerated: None, Stab-proof vest, Types 2, 3, 4 Kevlar vests and Powered Combat Vest, backpack doesn't count)
  • Carrying a weapon of some kind is mandatory - an unarmed Maze Guard is suspicious

Effects of the disguise:

  • Fellow Maze Guards (+all variants) become peaceful to the contestant
  • Maze Soldiers (+all variants) are all peaceful to the contestant
  • All other members of the Maze Personnel become neutral to the contestant (+ applicable perverted variants)
  • All other creatures are unaffected.
