Load-bearing equipment (no ontology)
From Mazeworld
The backpack is the most important item that is given to the contestant in the beginning of his/her adventure in Mazeworld. It is the item that allows the contestant to have an inventory. It is considered a piece of clothing, but is special in its own right in that it cannot be damaged by enemy attacks, but may be destroyed or stolen.
Despite it is considered a piece of clothing, it may be worn by creatures who don't wear clothing and armor, on the conditions that if they can pick up and use firearms, they can wear backpacks. Please check individual encounter articles to know if a certain species can pick up firearms and wear backpacks.
The term backpack is loose, as it may also describe load-bearing equipment, which may combine vests and packs. For the sake of simplicity, the term "backpack" will refer to all of those.
There are different kinds of backpacks in the game:
- The standard backpack, a bog standard backpack
- The handbag, a small sack with lighter straps and limited capacity
- The advanced backpack, an upgrade of the standard one containing more space
- The combat backpack, a large military-grade rucksack
- The 72 Pattern LBE, a vest composed of simple, specialized pouches with no "free" space
- The IIFS LBE, a vest with several specialized pouches with little space for other objects
- The RM22SF LBE, a vest with pouches of all sizes with some space for other objects
- The PLCE LBE/Pack combo, a vest and pack offering a standard backpack-sized bag and specialized pouches
- The MOLLE LBE/Pack combo, a military-grade vest and pack duo offering an advanced backpack-sized bag and specialized pouches
- The Il Duce webbing, a specialized vest made to carry several extra handguns plus ammo.
- The RPG Carrier vest, a specialized vest made to carry rocket launcher or RPG ammunition easily.
- The Medic LBE/Pack, a vest and pack made to carry medical supplies easily.
- The Eagle Recon backpack, a high-capacity backpack made for alternate weapon configurations.
- The TIMS Double Pack, a double backpack system with lots of special space for various item types.
Weight
The most important thing about the backpack, other than the fact it enables the contestant's inventory, is that it has a limited weight capacity. Weight is expressed in "units", and every kind of backpack has a different maximum capacity. Most items have a weight of 1, but there are items with different weights, such as pieces of clothing, armor, or weapons as among the heaviest, while other items such as ammunition or money, weighing as little as 0.01 unit per item. Rarely, there exists a few weightless items whose size and weight are insignificant to the backpack.
Every backpack is equipped with a money pouch, a special container which is made to carry money. It can carry up to 2000 P$ before being full, providing the contestant with a safe area to store money in without being concerned about weight.
Most articles of the wiki speaking about a specific item that has a weight will list it.
Exceeding the maximum capacity is not recommended, as it will overload the backpack. It gives the reduced strength secondary effect indefinitely, until the total weight of carried objects again goes under or equals the maximum limit.
It must be noted that the backpack itself will not be able to withstand too much overloading. If the total carried weight is 120% or more than the maximum limit, the straps will rip, resulting in the complete loss of the backpack. The contestant will lose the ability to spare items, and will have to consume or use the items inside (if possible) before leaving the room.
Having no backpack prevents from sparing any items. It is best to check the weight of items before picking them up if weight goes high!
Standard backpack
A standard, frameless backpack made mostly of cloth. The standard backpack has a maximum capacity of 50 units, which is good for starting contestants but may, over time, be a bit too limited for the needs of middle or end of game. Like the others, it can be found in a clothes shop or a pawn shop. This backpack's straps will rip at 60 units.
Handbag
The handbag is an optional "backpack" that is sometimes found in the mazes, at a clothes shop or a pawn shop. It is not really a "back" pack per se, but counts as such. In Mazeworld, their maximum capacity of 20 units prevent them from carrying too much items. A word of advice though, it is very easy to overload; the straps will rip off starting at 24 units.
Advanced backpack
The advanced backpack is an upgraded version of the standard backpack. It is larger, has an internal frame, and more carrying space. A major improvement over its standard cousin, it is a must have for every contestant. Its maximum capacity of 80 units allows for a reliable amount of space, which may be used for spare weapons for players who have multiple weapon configurations. It is able to sustain overloading better than its smaller variants, as straps will rip at 96 units carried.
Combat backpack
The best backpack of the game, it is a military-grade backpack with an external frame. Even larger than the advanced backpack, its very generous maximum capacity of 120 units allows for multiple spare weapons, lots of space for ammunition, and is very suited to carrying crafting materials in bulk. Its overload resistance is very high, as the straps will remain in place until 144 units carried.

- Cannot carry any equipment other than the space provided by its pouches.

Because it cannot carry anything else, the 72 Pattern LBE is also impossible to destroy via overloading; it will simply be unable to carry more that what it is intended to.
