The .357 SIG is a handgun cartridge developed in 1994 by SIGARMS. It is a powerful cartridge intended for semi-automatic handguns. It is considered a medium-tier caliber.

Real-life data

The .357 SIG caliber was invented in 1984 by a joint effort between Swiss company SIGARMS and American manufacturer Federal Cartridge Company. This caliber is based on the case of a .40 S&W, necked down to accept a 9 millimeter bullet.

The name was chosen to highlight what the cartridge is capable of and was intended to do: a caliber that would perform closely from .357 Magnum, yet would be suitable for semi-automatic handguns; the result was the .357 SIG.

The weapon was noticeably chosen by several agencies in the United States for use in Glock 31 pistols or .357 SIG variants of the SIG Sauer P226.

How to read this?

This caliber does exactly what it was invented for: It provides similar performance to the .357 Magnum, but is intended for semi-automatic pistols. As such, the .357 SIG becomes an interesting choice of caliber for people who want a more powerful alternative to standard handgun calibers like .45 ACP or 9x19mm Parabellum while remaining relatively affordable. Against unarmored or lightly-armored targets, the .357 SIG's performance is remarkable - two or three shots suffice to take down such targets. However, as soon as it faces better protected enemies, the caliber's performance drops quickly. As such, .357 SIG can be used as a finisher round, or a reliable backup caliber to other, more potent ones in weapons of different Classes, as all weapons in Mazeworld that use this caliber are Class 3 ones.

The caliber is quite rare - only a few weapons are chambered for this caliber. When bought, gun shops and weapon shops sell .357 SIG in boxes of 50 or 250 rounds, for a price of 3,5 P$ per round; which is rather expensive, yet adequate for what this caliber is capable of.
