The .357 SIG is a handgun cartridge developed in 1994 by SIGARMS. It is a powerful cartridge intended for semi-automatic handguns. It is considered a medium-tier caliber.

Real-life data

The .357 SIG caliber was invented in 1984 by a joint effort between Swiss company SIGARMS and American manufacturer Federal Cartridge Company. This caliber is based on the case of a .40 S&W, necked down to accept a 9 millimeter bullet.

The name was chosen to highlight what the cartridge is capable of and was intended to do: a caliber that would perform closely from .357 Magnum, yet would be suitable for semi-automatic handguns; the result was the .357 SIG.

The weapon was noticeably chosen by several agencies in the United States for use in Glock 31 pistols or .357 SIG variants of the SIG Sauer P226.
