The .500 S&W (also known as .500 S&W Magnum) is a very large revolver caliber developed by Smith & Wesson and Cor-Bon. It is considered a top-tier caliber and is the best handgun cartridge of the game.

Real-life data

Smith & Wesson, which developed the legendary .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum calibers, had always been in the spotlight in firearms and ammunition development. But since the .454 Casull's introduction, a magnum variant of the .45 Colt, .44 Magnum had been eclipsed as the most powerful revolver cartridge in the world…

…That is, until 2003. Smith & Wesson presented at the SHOT trade show their latest invention in revolver cartridges: the .500 S&W Magnum (or just .500 S&W), intended as a handgun, hunting cartridge capable of taking down all North American kinds of game, but especially developed for one purpose: being the most powerful revolver cartridge in the world.

Since the undeniable success of the .44 Magnum and Smith & Wesson's famous Model 29 revolver, due in no small part to the success of famous movie Dirty Harry, S&W had sought to reclaim the title of being the firearms manufacturer that produced the most powerful revolver in the world - and they succeeded. Designed from the outset to fulfill this objective, the caliber develops, depending on bullet type, between 3400 and an astounding 4100 Joule of muzzle energy; such power was never seen before in revolver cartridges.

How to read this?

True to its real-life reputation, .500 S&W in Mazeworld is, since its introduction, the 6th most powerful round and the most powerful handgun caliber of the game. Developing immense amounts of power, it is the ultimate offensive handgun cartridge, which can kill or severely cripple most non- or lightly armored targets. Though the performance drop can be felt abruptly between Kevlar-3 and Kevlar-4, this caliber remains a serious threat even for higher ACs.

This immense power is offset by other variables, however. First, its rarity. Only one weapon is compatible with this caliber: the Smith & Wesson Model 500. Ammunition for this weapon can only be found at random in the rooms or sold in a gun shop or a weapon shop, for the understandably high price of 10 P$/round, and so in boxes of 15 or 50.

Another notable thing is the main disadvantage of the weapon itself - it can only fire once per turn, rendering its power much more valuable and worthy of preservation, but also more prone to be used in offensive purposes - particularly in the judicious placement of such a bullet in the head or the weak point of an opponent. More information on this on the weapon's page.
