The Hunger rate is one of the vital statistics tracked on every contestant. The primary items that affect Hunger are food, although certain other kinds of items may affect the statistic as well. A related term is Nutrition, which is how much a food item staves off hunger. The unit used is based on the kilocalorie, and is abbreviated as kcal.

Values

  • The baseline value corresponds to the amount of kilocalories that represents neutral hunger - neither positive (leaning towards satiation) nor negative (leaning towards starvation). For the Contestant, who is considered human, the baseline value is 2100 kilocalories, calulated as meat worth * 30. Human meat worth being 70, 70 * 30 = 2100.

How it works

  • Hunger is calmed down by replenishing nutrition - the most common method is eating food. It is also possible to affect natural hunger through various effects.
  • Nutrition is also expended when naturally healing Pain and Blood, as well as when receiving treatment for Limb damage - see their respective articles to see how they affect nutrition.

Effects

  • Hunger and satiation have no effect.
  • Starvation is reached when the kilocalorie counter reaches zero. The consequences are severe: no energy to expend means the body is no longer able to heal naturally. Pain no longer goes down gradually, Blood is not replenished, and limb healing does not occur. Furthermore, when starving, the body begins deteriorating. Humans begin losing 1 Chest HP every turn until starvation disappears, or death occurs.
    • Non-human creatures which do not have limb damage may instead suffer from losing 1 meat HP ever turn, unless the creature is inediate.
  • Oversatiation causes the contestant to suffer from Nausea, as an automatic bodily response to the excess amount of food. However, it does not cause any other effects and does not actively prevent the sufferer from eating more. If they insist, death by choking occurs if the amount of nutrition goes over 2.5x baseline value.
