Pentobarbital is a barbiturate drug. It is a substance commonly employed in the treatment of seizures, and can be used as a short-term hypnotic. It is also used in the treatment of Reye's Syndrome, where the substance decreases the amount of intercranial pressure suffered.

Pentobarbital is also used, at high doses, in human euthanasia and physician-assisted suicides.

Strategy

Given the inherent nature of pentobarbital as a "suicide drug", it is obviously a med to avoid swallowing, unless the contestant is willing to suicide.

Upon consumption, pentobarbital has a 50% chance of killing its user. If the substance does not manage to kill, it provides no other effect. As such, it may be misleading, as one may mistake the substance for placebo and may wish to get rid of all of them by swallowing them, which is a dangerous tactic.

However, the chances to kill stack ; multiplied by the amount of pills consumed in a row. In other words, they increase to 100% if two are administered at the same time, therefore securing death. Contestants may find such drugs to be useless for personal consumption, but they can be used offensively and may be fed to willing (and unwitting) encounters, or otherwise administered to other creatures in one way or another in order to "euthanize" them.

Pentobarbital is extremely fast-acting, and there is no antidote. Any creature ingesting the drug and passing the death check (or swallowing 2 or more at once) will be instantly killed.

Being a blue pill, it is strongly required the drug is kept until the contestant finds a medic or a peaceful scientist to identify the pill, as it shares its appearance with amphetamines, steroids, and a form of placebo.
