The name "steroids" in Mazeworld refers to the pill containing anabolic steroids. It is an anabolic and androgenic drug, destined to increasing muscle mass, cell growth, and masculine characteristics on the body. It is considered a performance enhancer as the increased muscle mass it provides subsequently increases physical strength and power. It has known adverse effects; mostly dependant on dosage. The most well-known is colloquially known as roid rage (a pun on road rage), significantly increasing aggressiveness, causing psychiatric trouble such as mania and psychosis, as well as violent mood disorders.

Strategy

Steroids may be considered a mild combat enhancing drug, although its negative effects are somewhat lessening the benefits provided by the only positive one.

Consumption of steroids temporarily increase the user's strength by no less than 20%, which is quite significant and may make a difference in melee combat. However, it also induces the infamous roid rage, which causes the user to be so aggressive and consumed by rage it forgets technique and accuracy, focusing completely on raw strength; this results in an increase of the Failure Threshold by 2, which counters the +20% strength bonus.

Additionally, steroids increase libido, which is another undesirable effect especially in combat; as induced by the effect, the user may completely cease fighting to satisfy its needs instead, which is quite risky in a combat situation. It should be considered only in cases of dire emergency if a quick strength boost is needed, and only if there is a safe way out after the immediate threats have been taken care of.

Aside from the usual methods of finding (at random in the rooms or purchased in a hospital room), steroids can notably be found in MEDAID4 crates.

Being a blue pill, it is strongly required the drug is kept until the contestant finds a medic or a peaceful scientist to identify the pill, as it shares its appearance with amphetamines, the dangerous pentobarbital, and a form of placebo.
