.300 Winchester Magnum (also known simply as .300 Win Mag, .300 WM, or more rarely 7.62x67mm) is a rifle cartridge designed in 1963 by Winchester. It is designed to be a magnum rifle cartridge that can fit in rifles with a standard-length action, such as rifles originally chambered for 7.62x51mm NATO. This cartridge is extremely versatile ; it is suitable for hunting, long range target shooting, military and law enforcement snipers, serving as a more powerful alternative to traditional 7.62 NATO rifles without the cost and expense of a larger platform, such as .338 Lapua Magnum.
