The 7.62x25mm Tokarev (also known as simply 7.62 Tokarev) is a handgun cartridge developed in 1930 by the Soviet Union. It is a somewhat rare cartridge used in handguns and submachine guns. It is considered a low-tier caliber due to its relatively low power.

The 7.62 Tokarev caliber is an enhanced and Soviet-made variant of the 7.62x25mm Mauser cartridge. It was produced with a very wide array of loading, from standard ball to armor-piercing, incendiary, and tracer, among others.

+
-
The cartridge was and still is notably used in the Tokarev TT-33 pistol, as well as other well-known weapons such as the PPSh-41 and PPS-43 submachine guns. All of those weapons were main service weapons in the Soviet military before the advent of the AK-47 and popular overall during World War II.
+
-
Considered obsolete nowadays and replaced by overpressured 9x19mm Parabellum ammunition in the Russian military, the 7.62 Tokarev caliber is still used nowadays by reserve units and other military forces in the world, such as China, due to the very large quantity of ammunition produced that is still available.
+
First adopted by the Soviet Union in 1930, it became the standard service pistol cartridge for the Red Army, being most proeminently used in the TT-30 and TT-33 pistols, as well as the PPSh-41 submachine gun. It remained in service until 1951, at which point 9x18mm Makarov gradually started phasing 7.62 Tokarev out.

With a relatively low base power, it appears to be less potent than other pistol calibers. Although it enjoys a slightly flatter damage curve than other calibers of comparable power, 7.62 Tokarev is best used as a finisher, or a defensive round if the primary intention of the contestant is only to injure, damage without killing, or finish off an already wounded opponent.

This caliber has the advantage of being cheap and, when found, available usually in reasonably high quantity every time. As such, 7.62 Tokarev rounds are quantity over quality - shooting as many rounds as possible makes up for the individually low power of every round. Compatible with five weapons, four of them being submachine guns, 7.62 Tokarev shines best when used for "spamming" ammo at the opposition.

7.62x25mm Tokarev (also known as 7.62 Tokarev, informally 7.62 Tok) is a pistol cartridge developed in 1930 as an enhanced version of the older 7.63x25mm Mauser.
