Hydration is one of the vital statistics tracked on every contestant. The primary items that affect Hydration are certain food items ; largely beverages - as well as sources of water in general; room furniture such as showers and sinks, although certain other kinds of items may affect the statistic as well. Hydration is measured into abstract hydration units or body water units, called wtr, which are based on real-life fluid ounces of water.

Values

Thresholds 2x BV >1x BV ; <2x BV ≥1x BV <1x BV ; >0.6x BV ≤0.6x BV ; >0.3x BV ≤0.3x BV ; >0 wtr 0 wtr

Calculations

  • The baseline value corresponds to the amount of hydration units that represents proper hydration. For a human creature such as the Contestant, the baseline value is 700 wtr, calulated as meat worth * 10. Human meat worth being 70, 70 * 10 = 700.
  • Non-human creatures may have another meat worth value; for example, the Kitsune's meat worth is 56, meaning the Baseline Value (BV) is 560wtr. Thus, a kitsune needs less water than a human to sustain themselves, but may need to drink more frequently to compensate.
  • Multiply the hydration Baseline Value (BV) by the amounts displayed in the table above to figure out a creature's hydration thresholds.

Examples:

  • A human's thresholds of hydration are 0 - 210 (0.3x BV) - 420 (0.6x BV) - 700 (1x BV) - 1400 (2x BV).
  • A kitsune's baseline value is 560 (10 * 56), meaning that their thresholds are 0 - 168 - 336 - 560 - 1120.

How it works

  • Every turn, under normal conditions, all creatures lose 1 wtr. This is called natural thirst.
  • Drinking water and eating certain food items is, naturally, the best way to replenish hydration. Beware however as many food items deplete hydration rather than replenish it.
  • Always be on the lookout for sources of water : room furniture such as sinks, toilets and showers all provide water that can be consumed and water can be taken from these sources at a rate of 80 wtr/turn, either through direct drinking or refilling existing items.

Effects

The various states of thirst and hydration may cause different secondary effects.

  • Hydrated does not have any effects. When reaching Max hydration (2x BV), the hydration counter simply caps and no further wtr can be absorbed when consuming items that replenish hydration.
  • Thirsty: Decreased Strength (-10%)
  • Dehydrated:
    • Decreased Strength (-20%)
    • Decreased accuracy (FT+1)
    • Increased Pain Sensitivity (+10%)
  • Dying:
    • Decreased Strength (-20%)
    • Decreased accuracy (FT+2)
    • Increased Pain Sensitivity (+10%)
    • Hallucinations (thirst delirium)
    • Starts a Hydration death counter which begins at 30, and ticks down by 1 every turn. If hydration isn't replenished within 30 turns, the Contestant dies of dehydration.

Notes

  • Inediate creatures do not suffer from the effects of hydration as they simply do not have a nutrition or a hydration counter to begin with.
