.30-06 Springfield (no ontology)

From Mazeworld

.30-06 Springfield (also known as simply .30-06, pronounced Thirty-Aught-Six, more rarely 7.62x63mm) is a rifle cartridge developed in 1906 by Winchester and adopted the same year by the United States Army as a service rifle cartridge, where it remained until the 1980s. It remained the primary service rifle and machine gun cartridge for the US Army for over fifty years, until the advent of the 7.62x51mm NATO, a cartridge which was designed to emulate .30-06 ballistics while using a shorter cartridge. It is perhaps most famous for being the caliber in which the M1 Garand is chambered for.
