.338 Lapua Magnum (also referred to as .338 Lapua or .338 LM, more rarely 8.58x70mm) is a rifle caliber designed as a joint venture between Finnish rifle manufacturer SAKO, British manufacturer Accuracy International, and Finnish ammunition manufacturer Nammo Lapua Oy. It is designed to fill a gap between conventional 7.62x51mm NATO precision rifles and .50 BMG anti-matériel rifles and machine guns, while being simultaneously better suited than both for extreme long range military applications. The cartridge is also suitable for long range target shooting and big game hunting.
