10x25mm Auto (Also known as 10mm Auto, 10x25 Auto, 10mm Norma Auto or simply 10mm) is a pistol cartridge developed in 1983 by firearms instructor Jeff Cooper and initially produced by Swedish ammunition manufacturer Norma Precision. It was originally intended to have better ballistics than .45 ACP while also being more powerful and have more stopping power than 9x19mm Parabellum. Following Jeff Cooper's concepts and recommendations, the then-newly formed firearms manufacturer Dornaus & Dixon Enterprises began the development of the first handgun that was intended to fire the new cartridge, the Bren Ten.

The Bren Ten and the 10mm Auto cartridge enjoyed instant popularity due to the firearm being carried by Sonny Crockett, one of the protagonists of the TV show Miami Vice, at least during the first two seasons. Demand for 10mm firearms soon soared afterwards, but Dornaus & Dixon ran into technical and financial troubles, which later resulted in the company going bankrupt. Other manufacturers filled the void left, with Colt introducing the Delta Elite in 1987 and Glock introducing the Glock 20 in 1991.

10mm Auto was most notably adopted as the new service handgun of the FBI in 1989 after studying the events of the 1986 Miami Shootout, but after an audit which revealed that most FBI agents were incapable of controlling the stout recoil of a full power 10mm load, a weaker load was requested by the agency - this resulted in the creation of the so-called "FBI Lite" loads, contrasting with the original Norma "hot" load. Smith & Wesson then underwent the conception of a shortened cartridge based on 10mm Auto and those reduced-power loads; this gave birth to the .40 S&W. The FBI soon abandoned 10mm Auto afterwards, switching to .40 S&W and 9mm pistols instead.

10mm Auto is also popular with civilian shooters and handloaders, being suitable for personal defense, hunting, target shooting, and protection against dangerous animals.
