Crafting is an aspect of the game that allows the contestant to build weapons and other useful items out of materials. Crafting remains an essentially minor aspect of the game, and is mostly very optional, although it is required for certain missions to be completed.

Crafting requires three kinds of items: a toolkit, at least one blueprint, and adequate ingredients; often specific items.

Items for crafting can be found at random in the rooms, but they can also be found for sale in a workshop, a shop that is dedicated to this type of items.

In the Mazes, it is customary to give nicknames to weapons one has crafted himself or herself. Typically it is done by engraving a name, or a symbol somewhere on the weapon. It is possible to engrave an already existing weapon as well, for symbolic or affectionate purposes; i.e., to give a nickname to one's favorite firearm for example.

Toolkits

Toolkits are key items, as such, they cannot be lost. They are belts with lots of pouches, said pouches are themselves full of tools suited for engineering. There are three different toolkits, each corresponding to a certain level. Finding a better toolkit than the one currently equipped (if any is) will result in an upgrade of the lower one.

  • The Standard toolkit, also known as the Level 1 kit - which costs 300 P$
  • The Advanced toolkit, also known as the Level 2 kit - which costs 750 P$
  • The Expert toolkit, also known as the Level 3 kit - which costs 1500 P$
  • Upgrading from a lesser toolkit (LT) to a better one (BT) costs BT-LT=Final cost. For example, upgrading from Level 1 to Level 2 costs 750-300 = 450 P$.

Once an Expert toolkit has been found, it is impossible to upgrade anymore. It is also impossible to downgrade a toolkit.

Blueprints

Blueprints are rolls of blue paper detailing how a certain item is made, and using what ingredients. There are many different blueprints.

Blueprints detail their designation name (which hints at what is the resulting object), the ingredients needed to craft it, and a level, which corresponds to the toolkit level you need to carry in order to craft the object. When all conditions are met, the objects are consumed (except the blueprint) and one instance of the item is created for the contestant to use.

n corresponds to either 1, 2 or 3. You need a level n toolkit to build a level n blueprint.

  • Level 1 blueprints cost 100 P$
  • Level 2 blueprints cost 250 P$
  • Level 3 blueprints cost 400 P$

Crafting ingredients

Sometimes, specific ingredients are needed to craft certain items. Most are required on the recipe of a blueprint, certain others may have other, special purposes.

  • Aerosol spray - 50 P$
  • Bottle of motor oil - 200 P$
  • Bottle of wet picric acid - 300 P$
  • Bottle of vinegar - 50 P$
  • Box of 25 magnesium explosive (MgX) charges - 100 P$
  • Box of 250 safety matches - 50 P$
  • Box of alumina fibers - 200 P$
  • Box of plastic sheets - 10 P$
  • Butane gas canister (Max fuel: 200) - 200 P$
  • Camera - 400 P$
  • Camera memory card, 256MB (weighs 0.1 unit, capacity: 110 photos) - 100 P$
  • Chlorine tablet - 150 P$
  • Ceramic-plated jockstrap - 550 P$
  • Copper wire (roll of 10) - 250 P$
  • Custom 9-round revolver cylinder - 600 P$
  • Custom revolver frame - 500 P$
  • Electronic circuit - 100 P$
  • Giant drill bit - 750 P$
  • HITB battery - 600 P$
  • Hollow metal pipe - 100 P$
  • Long Titanium Nitride barrel - 800 P$

  • Mobile phone (Key item - weighs 1 unit when not carried as a key item) - 300 P$
  • Mobile phone attachment: Tactical radio (Key item - weighs 1 unit when not carried as a key item) - 250 P$
  • Mobile phone battery (weighs 0.1 unit) - 250 P$
  • Odd recoil spring - 100 P$
  • Padded butt protector - 100 P$
  • Portable stove kit - 200 P$
  • Rag (sold in workshops in batches of 1d20) - 1 P$
    • Rags possess two uses on their own: they can be used as makeshift bandages (a rag has a 50% chance to succeed at closing a wound, making them cheap, but unreliable), or they can be used to craft molotov cocktails (See below).
    • Rags can be created by tearing apart suitable clothing. No tools are needed to tear clothes into rags. The amount of rags obtained depends on the current condition of the piece of clothing, and the size multiplier (0.5x, 1x or 2x), rounded down (Condition 3.9 and size multiplier 1x would yield 3 rags, for example).   • Roll of duct tape (roll of 10) - 25 P$
  • Stylish old revolver grip - 300 P$
  • Tiny pistol barrel - 200 P$
  • Tiny shotgun barrel - 250 P$
  • Titanium-plated jockstrap - 450 P$
  • Weapon Light and Laser Battery (WL2 Battery, weighs 0.1 unit) - 100 P$

Blueprint-less crafting recipes

  • Molotov cocktail: Suitable bottle of alcohol + Bottle of motor oil + Rag
    • Suitable alcohol: Absinthe, Brandy, Mead, Vodka, Whiskey.
    • While it is not required as part of the crafting recipe, a suitable source of fire, such as a lighter, is required to attack with the molotov cocktail.

Notes

  • Once a crafted item is finished, the blueprint is kept and can be reused later to craft more of the same item.
  • Items obtained via crafting are called "crafting-only", because they cannot otherwise be acquired via normal means; these items are unique and are normally never found in the inventory of other encounters.
