.22 Long Rifle (also known as simply .22 LR) is a small pistol caliber, and the most popular pistol and rifle cartridge in real life, as well as being one of the oldest calibers still in use today; .22 Long Rifle was invented in 1887 by the Peters Cartridge Company, originally as a blackpowder cartridge, before it transitioned into a smokeless powder cartridge at the turn of the 20th century.

It is very often used for recreational shooting, firearms training, small game hunting, or pest control. While it is not known for being suitable for combat or self-defense, it is very cheap, plentiful, and dispenses very low recoil.
